As far as I understand Merged Cells are not possible with Grid 1.1.nnn.n. But I have encountered a need for something similar.

I have a window which contains a grid. This grid must have the ability to show two types of data: Columnar and Free Format. At any given time a message could be received and the information will be placed into the grid (in either columnar or free format) based on the contents of the message.

For example:

1 Row of data Might Contain (Where | indicates a separate column)

IBM|55.98|10:04:28

while another row might contain:

TRADE ALERT FOR IBM

Is this possible?

Thanks for you help.

This specific case is possible, if you use an unbound grid:
– define the columns of the grid (like in IBM|55.68|10:04:28)
– if you want to add a row with cells like in IBM|…|…, you add a DataRow with data to the grid
– if you want to add a row with only a label, you add a TextRow to the grid

Thanks for the answer…..

It works, but I had a requirement where the rows should appear in the order in which they were received.

So Instead of using a DataRow I use a ValueRow and insert both the ValueRow and the TextRow into the HeaderRows collection.
